LOS ANGELES - The non-profit H.H. Dorje
Chang Buddha III Cultural and Art Museum held a grand celebration
for its first anniversary on June 28. The celebration started with an indoor
ceremony, and over 1,000 guests from all over the world came. In the
ceremony, Dr. Brian Tyan, President of the museum, received the Grand Collar
of Honor from the Academy of Letters and Arts of Portugal, the highest honor
the prestigious institute has ever issued, and many other congratulatory
certificates on behalf of the museum. Dr. Tyan also made a donation to the
Covina Social Model Recovery Organization to help many homeless women and
children to receive the therapy and treatment that they need. The president
made a speech in the ceremony in which he wishes the United States of America
to be strong and prosperous and all people to be happy. He also explained the
museum’s mission of raising moral quality and purifying people’s minds as
well as the efforts it has made in the past year.
The ceremony was followed by a big
festival held at the Heritage Plaza Park in downtown Covina. There were a lot
of entertainment programs including live bands, live DJ, the traditional
Chinese lion-dance, Shaolin Kung-Fu show and the magical Sichuan face-change
show. There were also many charity sales booths for arts and crafts,
discounted clothes, face-painting and a balloon artist. The museum provided
gifts worth thousands of dollars for raffle drawings.
In commemoration of this anniversary celebration, the art museum also held a K-5 art contest with a theme of conserving the environment of the earth. There were four categories by grades: K, 1 -2, 3-4, and 5. The first-place winner of each category won $250 in scholarship, the second- and the third-place winners each won $100. The winners were announced in the ceremony, and all the 200 or so participating art works were on display during the festival. The anniversary celebration also made the debut of a special post mark of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III Cultural and Art Museum approved and issued by the US Post Office that uses the logo and the full name of the museum in design to recognize and praise the outstanding contributions to human’s philosophy, culture and art by H.H.
